Implementing Cname in Show App

CNames can help in pointing several websites that are owned by the same organization to the primary, intended website. Let us see how you can implement Cname with Show App effectively.

What can you do here:\ Map a subdomain effectively with the help of show app settings\ Cross-check the availability and authenticity of the subdomains added.\ Understanding how to manage your DNS settings effectively.

Overview:\ The objective is to successfully implement a subdomain with the help of Show app. Here is a step-by-step approach to the whole process.

The first step is to map the subdomain in the show application after which you will be able to use the mapped subdomain.

Open settings on the bottom left-hand side of the screen, and click on the branding section.

Find the option for "custom URL" mentioned here and click on it to add your specific URL.

We have incorporated On-page URL validation to help in getting the right URLs added to your projects. "Invalid error" will be shown if the URL you are trying to enter is invalid or doesn't exist. in avoiding invalid URLs that might get added. Also if you are adding a domain that is already taken by a different user, Show app will throw an error message indicating the same. Apart from these two errors any pre-linked domains that are in use by a different account will also not be allowed to link. Case-specific error messages are given for a smoother process. Only a valid domain will let you click the apply button.

Upon clicking the apply button a notification will appear on your right-hand bottom of the screen. The notification indicates a request sent to your mail for the custom Cname to the account owner and the DevOps team.

Configuring your DNS Management\ First, find the unique code that is to be added to your DNS management. Here are the steps to do so.\ Step 1: Visit the portal of your hosting provider\ Step 2: Open DNS management\ Step 3: Add the unique code as CName.\ Step 4: Add the subdomain name that you wish to use under "Record name". Please make sure that this subdomain name should be the same as the one that you add on Vmaker.\ Step 5: Select "CName" under "record type"\ Invalid data won't be taken and your CName can not be implemented.

After these steps are complete send a list of information that is needed by the DevOps team to approve your request. This information includes the SSL Certificate Body, SSL Certificate Private Key, and the SSL Certificate Chain.

Once this is submitted you can check the progress of the CName implementation on the branding page. You will see the "Active" sign appear in green if the DNS mapping is complete. This denotes that the CName is implemented and ready to be used.

Now to check if CName has been successfully implemented, click on the dashboard and find all your videos. Click on the share icon for the video of your choice which will give you the share link. Copy the share link and paste it into your web browser, once you hit enter it should redirect you to the new domain.

While this feature is currently available for the share page, we will soon be rolling it out on other pages like the dashboard where the implemented CName will be visible.
